A Conversation Between Author, Mark Winkler and Dr. John Schinnerer
This episode is an attempt to provide a way forward through the increasingly divisive topic of traditional masculine ideology (i.e., those who subscribe to the ideas that men shouldn’t feel, women belong in the kitchen, women are sexual conquests men should be hypersexual, men are homophobic, men who don’t fight back are weak, gay men are not ‘real men’, men should use violence to get respect). Research shows that men who strongly endorse these traditional beliefs are more likely to feel depressed, are less satisfied in their romantic relationships (as are their partners), tend to be angrier, are more violent towards others and are more psychologically rigid. This episode is an effort to invite men to examine their ideas about what it means to be a man…with curiosity and nonjudgmental…to truly look at what parts of it work for them and which pieces need some editing.
The Evolved Caveman is committed to helping men evolve beyond caveman status.
