Pete Buecker was a successful orthopaedic surgeon who felt that he was merely treating the symptoms of his patients. He left the field and got a Ph.D. in mind-body medicine. Now he works on creating virtual reality mental health programs to treat the root causes — stress, anxiety, depression, inflammation. An absolutely amazing conversation
Anger is one of our biggest barriers to evolution. Anger leads to externalization of blame (blaming other people rather than look at our own part) which keeps us stuck in complacency and refusing to grow and evolve (e.g., “If you’d just stop being such a nagging bitch, I wouldn’t be so angry!”)
Trauma plays a big role in disconnecting us from mental health, other people and, even, our own authenticity. What is trauma? And how do we heal it?
How does the victim mentality play into trauma?
What is shame? How does it affect us in work? In relationship?
The need for belonging is a fundamental need for humans. Listen to the negative behaviors we engage in to belong, as well as what we can do to change that.
Let’s talk about your current project involving Virtual Reality and mental health.
